In August 2005 my cat saved my life. Playfully prodding me for breakfast,
he stepped on a tender spot on my left breast. My life was changed
forever. Surgery, months of chemotherapy and rehabilitation are only the
beginning. Fortunately I am blessed with a large support network: husband,
family, friends and an understanding employer. I wondered how women who
don't have this support cope with the expense of medical bills and months of
being unable to work. Many women who are unable to leave work or afford
adequate health care are forced to lose their homes, possibly their children,
and in the most extreme cases, simply give up and wait to die. It doesn't
have to be.
My husband
Steve and I
own Cafe Cartago and we decided to do something to give back. We are donating all profits from the sale of Bald Lady Coffee
to several charities
dedicated to finding a cure and helping those with the disease to survive and cope.
Their purpose is to provide financial assistance to poor and under-insured
women coping with breast cancer. Other foundations donate to
research- that is good and necessary work however it won't have much impact for
many years to come- what we are doing is helping people now.
I am also very proud to be a participant in the
Susan G. Komen Denver Race for the Cure
to be held in Denver October 8, 2006. It is an honor that the Komen Foundation asked me to help promote the Race by
serving as one of this year's models. A portion of the profits from sales of Bald Lady Coffee are being donated to the race foundation.
By purchasing this coffee you are helping women cope and SURVIVE this very
survivable disease. To learn more, volunteer or make a contribution directly,
please contact any of the links above.
Thank you,
